The Clean Water Solution
Clean Water For The World installs water purification systems that are simple yet effective. This system is the $700 solution to the world's drinking water problems. It can be installed anywhere - even on a tree, like the one in this photo from Haiti.
The whole system fits in a box like the one in this picture and weighs 35 lbs.
People first pour water from their container into the filler spout. The water comes from the same open well or river where they always get water.
The water passes through a simple cotton paper filter. Many people have a filter like this under their kitchen sink. The filter removes particles from the water that could provide cover or protection for deadly pathogens.
The water then passes through a stainless steel ultra-violet light chamber that sterilizes the pathogens and renders them non-viable. The ultra-violet light chamber has an LED light that monitors water usage and automatically shuts the system down the system when the light needs to be replaced.

Hose to Water Source: Contaminated water enters, under pressure or gravity-fed, through hose into the 5-micron (5/1000th of a millimeter) filter.
Solenoid: The Solenoid is a safety device. Its purpose is to permit water to come out of the faucet, ONLY when the U-V light bulb is lit and purifying the water.
Filter: The 5-micron filter removes all particulants, of that size and larger, that are present in the water.
U-V Light Chamber: The water passes by the U-V light, which is inside a glass sleeve to keep it dry, and the U-V light destroys the bacteria and/or viruses that are present in the water.
Faucet: When the water comes out of the faucet, it is pure and free of all harmful bacteria and/or viruses and safe to drink.
Unit: This unit will produce up to 5 gallons of pure water per minute.
Only minor maintenance is required to keep the system functioning properly:
- The cotton paper filter needs to be replaced every month or two.
- The glass sleeve that separates the water from the UV bulb needs to be cleaned when the filter is replaced.
- The UV bulb needs to be replaced every year.
- A two year supply of consumables is provided when each system is installed, then automatically re-supplied every two years.
One person in each community is appointed to maintain the system and keep it operating properly. A contract with that person assures that the clean water system will be available free to all residents of the community without cost or barter.
